Tokyo: Day 2

Filed under: japan — maxinjapan @ 9:01 am

Considering the last night lasted very long we did not do too much this day :-)

We decided we would go and see Roppongi Hills together, a huge architectonical masterpiece.
It lies in its namegiving district “Roppongi”, known for its bars where most of the foreigners hang out.

Change in M.O.

Filed under: japan — maxinjapan @ 5:32 am

Hey everybody.
Just wanted to let you know that there is a slight chane in my method of operation ;-)

Uploading so many pictures, adding them to wordpress is pretty tedious. I was checking out other blogs, photosharing applications and the likes, and it seems the best solution for now is this:
I will upload my pictures to Facebook which is very easy. I can easily tag my pictures and write comments for a whole bactch of pictures.
I will then post a public link to that photo album on facebook so everybody can read it. No account needed.

That is probably the single most convenient way for me, and still easy and nice to read for you.

I will try that out with my next Tokyo post later that day :-)

Tokyo: Day 1, Part 2

Filed under: japan — maxinjapan @ 9:25 am

The evening is going to be long. Now its time for some relaxing sumo though.

Sumo is very ritualistic. About 2 minutes of “preperation”/ritual before a fight, while a fight lasts about 10 seconds.

Tokyo: Day 1, Part 1

Filed under: japan — maxinjapan @ 5:28 pm

Last weekend was my trip to Tokyo. Tuesday was a national holiday, and I took a day off on monday. 4 days of time and a lot to see.

Lots of interesting things happened, including a visit to sumo and meeting karlsruhe friends :-)

This post happens later as expected. I grew kind of fed up with wordpress because they dont suport my kind of blogging (with lots of pictures) very well. I can only ever upload one picture at a time and have to wait during that time.

Was checking out other blogs, but they had other deficencies. I decided to stay here and host my pictures on photobucket (multiple uploads, yay) and link to there.
I hope it works for everybody, and posting will become a joy again instead of a chore ;-)

Kyoto

Filed under: japan — maxinjapan @ 5:31 pm

It was planned as a family trip, but due to weather reasons(forecast prediceted rain starting at noon) Harvey decided not to come. Not beeing intimidated Yujin, Eiko and me decided to still go and use the workfree Monday.

Kyoto is an old capital of Japan and was pretty much spared by WWII destruction. As that there are TONS and TONS of old temples, gardens and such to see. One of the typical tourist stops as we will see.

Nagoya Zoo & Expo area

Filed under: japan — maxinjapan @ 4:11 pm

First things first: Sorry for no recent updates =) I am going to Tokyo tomorrow, Shinkansen tickets are already booked =)
For that reason I was busy this week with planning my trip, shopping for a new camera, buying a travel guide, booking a hotel and so on…

Last week we went to Higashiyama Zoo to see the famous “Green Polarbears” from Nagoya. They made an appearance in news all around the world, but I was THERE! :-P
After that we visited the area of the 2005 Nagoya world expo to see the japanese gardens.

Monday was a national holiday and we used the time for a visit in Kyoto and saw lots and lots of temples.

Baseball & Work & many different other things

Filed under: japan — maxinjapan @ 4:50 pm

Yep, last weekend. Lots of Baseball. I went to the Nagoya Baseball stadium two times, one times with my fellow AIESECers, one time with my host family.

Considering that Germany has basically NO baseball at all that was quite a basebally weekend ;-)
While baseball has its moments many times its kind of… slow. A game probably lasts 3 hours or more and there is lots of waiting involved. It gets interesting IF the batter hits the ball and people start moving. If you don’ know how it works but want to know read the rules here.

Then theres some more information about my work, my first game for the IPhone will soon be finished, wooohooo :-) Maybe this week we will send it to Apple, and next week you can download from the App-Store.

Also I went to play the Koto, a traditional japanese instrument ;-) Also pictures of that ;-)
